A Song of Joy and Sorrow

Cold and misty morning

Dreary afternoon

Yet if I just listen I can hear a quiet tune

Everything so heavy

Gray is all I see

still these gentle notes somehow succeed in reaching me

Every day I can hear that melody

Full of joy, full of comfort and tranquility

From the first beginnings

(through) passages and endings

It's been there to comfort you and me

And whenever I need that melody

I hear a tender song that softly carries me

Days, boring and gray,

The song takes me away,

I feel that song is sharing all my pain and sorrow

Happiness or trouble

Dreams we never won

They become the threads that we will weave into our song

Wonders and surprises

Habits and routine

Merge into a song so gentle, delicate, serene

Every day I can hear that melody

Full of joy, full of comfort and tranquility

From the first beginnings

(through) passages and endings

It's been there to comfort you and me

And each day with our joy and with our strife

We're writing this song about a simple life

Hurt, sorrow, or pain,

The song lifts us again

I feel our song is carrying our pain and sorrow
