Höst - Dan Hylander

Beyond

On a parkbench in the square a girl of seventeen

was singing blues for pigeons and for homeless men

And she looked a bit like you so I stopped to listen in

Old memories came swirling back again

And maybe there is beauty, honor, pride, or poetry

or some moral in a famous hero’s story

They found you in a restroom after your O.D.

devoid of any dignity and glory

Do, do, do

Beyond the light beyond the shadows No matter what I do

Beyond our masks and our pretensions Forever I’ll love you

Do, do, do

Beyond the pain beyond the ecstasy No matter what I do

and beyond anguish and despondency Forever I’ll love you

Still lost in memories and contemplative prayer

I noticed she had ended and just stared at me

so with a broken blues that lingered in the air

I ran away to flee her pleading scrutiny

But I’m not really crying, see, my cheeks are almost dry

some salty water wouldn’t change a thing

I curse the life we lived, I curse the way you died

and each day I honor you just by existing

Do, do, do

Beyond the lies beyond deceptions No matter what I do

Beyond my wants and predilections Forever I’ll love you

Do, do, do

And beyond here into infinity No matter what I do

Beyond tomorrow and eternity Forever I’ll love you

Do, do, do

Beyond the light beyond the shadows No matter what I do

Beyond our masks and our pretensions Forever I’ll love you

Do, do, do

Beyond the pain beyond the ecstasy No matter what I do

and beyond anguish and despondency Forever I’ll love you

Do, do, do

Beyond the lies beyond deceptions No matter what I do

Beyond my wants and predilections Forever I’ll love you

Do, do, do

And beyond here into infinity No matter what I do

Beyond tomorrow and eternity Forever I’ll love you
